IPOH: Two political party activists were arrested after provoking policemen who were on duty at the Kanthan Industrial Estate, Chemor, here following a land encroachment case there.
Perak police chief Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said they were arrested early today after ignoring three warnings by the police not to incite the public.
He said upon arrival at the scene, policemen found that a group of local men who failed to prove their ownership of the land were obstructing the land clearing work in the area.
“The police officers on duty initially advised them to disperse to avoid any untoward incidents, as they also committed the offence of trespassing (the land).
“Most of the public who were there agreed to disperse after being advised by the police, but there were two local men who introduced themselves as members of Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) who refused to leave and did not cooperate.
“They even provoked the policemen there, which led to their arrest,” he said in a statement today.
The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant from carrying out his duties and Section 447 of the Penal Code for criminal trespass.
Mior Faridalathrash also warned all quarters not to incite the public to take actions that could threaten public order and encroach on land owned by other parties.
“The police will continue to adopt a stricter policy in the future in handling such cases of public treason,” he said.
